José was engaged to provide expert evidence whereby the Metropolitan Police had obtained a number of account freezing orders on bank accounts holding £13m. The Metropolitan Police were applying for forfeiture of these amounts on the basis that “the money had been accumulated through criminal activity.”
José and his team identified a number of fundamental errors within the witness statements obtained. He also performed a critical analysis of the accounting records for four companies which had provided the source of the monies held. Upon completion of his work, José concluded that there was nothing to support the conclusion reached that the money originated from criminal activity.
José’s report was provided to the Metropolitan Police as part of the client’s submissions and the application for forfeiture was subsequently withdrawn.
