About us

We provide a straightforward and honest service that is accessible to any individual or company involved in a financial dispute or corporate fraud.  We believe that there is no such thing as a "one size fits all" approach to cases - our business model and flexible engagement terms ensure that our work is tailored to the client's specific needs and budget while delivering expert quality and a personable service.

We are both Fellows of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales.  José is a Member of the Academy of Experts as well as being an ICAEW Accredited Forensic Accountant and Chloë holds an Advanced Professional Certificate in Investigative Practice.

We work as a network of chartered accountants and investigators with a wide range of experience from private practice, with regulators and in banks and we have strong relationships with a number of litigation funders to ensure that the most appropriate resource is applied on each engagement.


Services

Quantum of Loss

Skilled in assessing claims relating to loss of earnings or profit for individuals or companies in relation to a wide range of industries.  Work can be in the form of opinion based expert reports or as initial analysis in the form of financial models which can be used to test the sensitivity of claims under multiple scenarios.

Data Analysis

Experts in analysing significant amounts of data, distilling the key information into a presentable and comprehensible format for a variety of audiences, including in the form of expert evidence for use in Court.  

In-house resource

In-house forensic accountancy resource for legal and investigation teams that don't have their own permanent resource.  Able to contribute to tenders, assistance with fee estimates and initial "kick the tyres" analysis as well as longer term engagements on projects from start to finish.

Internal Company Investigations

Experienced in conducting business reviews to identify failures in a company's systems and controls or to investigate particular suspicions of internal and external financial misappropriation and fraudulent activity.

Critical Reviews

Ability to assist with due diligence work, including critical reviews of financial statements, shareholdings and other company documentation in order to identify key strengths, weaknesses, opportunities or threats.

Experience

We have a wealth of experience in preparing expert evidence for use in Court as well as giving evidence in Court.  

We have experience on both sides of the fence - on the prosecution and investigation of potential criminal and regulatory offences as well as in the defence and mitigation of those subject to the proceedings issued by the SFO, the FCA, the NCA and other regulatory and prosecutorial bodies.

Instructed as an expert to prepare a quantification of the losses suffered as a result of the actions of the Impaired Assets Division of HBOS plc.

Engaged on multiple instances to advise clients on the extent of consequential losses suffered as a result of the mis-sale of Interest Rate Hedging Products.


Provided significant assistance to the FCA on various occasions including a large insider dealing investigation and the promotion of a collective investment scheme.
Assisted in the response to the first Unexplained Wealth Order to be issued by the National Crime Agency by reviewing the available documentation.

Assisted clients subject to allegations of bribery and corruption and those in receipt of extradition requests by identifying the source and destination of monies and opining on the rationale of cash flows.

 Engaged to prepare robust and reliable valuations on a number of companies for a variety of purposes (commercial litigation, shareholder disputes, matrimonial disputes etc).
Engaged as expert to quantify losses suffered by a rogue accountant who had misappropriated £3m from a number of clients. 
 

Instructed as expert to act on a number of matrimonial disputes to work alongside financial investigators to quantify the extent of non-disclosure of assets with a view to re-opening historic financial settlements.
Provided assistance to clients, lawyers and litigation funders with early case assessments by considering the merits of a case, its quantum and the extent of assets to aid enforcement of any subsequent judgment. 

Chloë Carmichael  FCA APCIP


Appeared as a prosecution witness in Southwark Crown Court to provide evidence in relation to a multi-million pound boiler room fraud resulting in the successful conviction of four individuals.

Experienced in analysing and reporting on the quantum of loss and determining or defending claims in, for example, breach of contract disputes and loss of earnings cases.

Investigator on a number of market abuse and market manipulation cases. Investigations have been from both sides, working for regulators and also for banks.
Engaged to examine assets and financial affairs in matrimonial disputes, including preparing cashbook analyses, asset tracing and deciphering complex financial structures.

Experienced in audit tracing exercises through a company’s financial systems to the audited financial statements, in order to assess the robustness and integrity of a company’s accounting process. 

Regular in-house resource for law firms, investigation firms and forensic accountancy boutiques.
Highly proficient in manipulating and dissecting large quantities of financial data, for example banking or markets data, and providing clients with understandable and useful analysis.
 
Investigator on a number of FCA Unauthorised Business and Retail Enforcement cases, including investigations into money laundering, ponzi schemes and mortgage fraud.

All cases are priced according to the complexity of work carried out by offering flexible fee arrangements and cost certainty by tailoring each assignment to suit a client's specific needs, whether that is, for example, applying day rates, capped fees or fixed fee arrangements.
